Welcome

Hey folks…Welcome to Suzanne and Craig's (Over The Moon) new Bird Dog Theatre and Studio website!  We bought an old, but beautiful little movie theatre in the Town of Hardisty Alberta. We are in the process of transforming it into a “live” acoustic music venue, recording studio, “live” video production stage, and of course..Movie Nights too. It was built in 1950 and all the vintage projectors and equipment are still here and working… Haha, they look like steam engines and even have exhaust pipes going out through the roof, like our woodstove at home…

The people of Hardisty have been way more than welcoming, and we are so looking forward to seeing what this next adventure will turn into. Please follow along and even come out to our grand opening! We'll keep you posted!!!

Suzanne and I have always loved the music and spirit in Newfoundland! Since our dear friends, Bob and Jan Preece moved into Hardisty in March and Jan is originally from Newfoundland, we thought, what could be a better welcoming gift for the two of them than to have a wee kitchen party with the amazing, "KitchinParti" band, straight from the rock...The sing together like family and their songs are steeped in the Newfoundland tradition that we love! I think the only time these three are not smiling or laughing is when they're asleep:) THIS ONE WILL BE FUN!!!

Bird Dog Theatre, 5102 50th Street, Hardisty, Alberta T0B 1V0

We have been gathering some great old, and some beautiful new, Christmas tunes and stories over the past few years or so. Most of them reflect a western way of life at Christmas Time... We'll be joined by some of our friends in the band, and maybe one or two others... All we know at this point, is that you'll be full of the Christmas Spirit "western style" when you leave... and it's a good thing as it will be only four more days until Christmas Eve, when you do walk out of the theatre!!!

When we heard that one of our favourite singer/songwriters was going to be on tour out west here and we reached out with an idea to have Terra Spenser join us for a show on Valentines Day! Now we are making plans to host a beautiful roast beef dinner with Yorkshire pudding and all the trimmings , before the concert. We'll make a separate event that will sell tickets for both, the concert, and for the supper and concert... and you can get "concert only tickets" here. Raised on the mud banks of the Avon River, award-winning Nova Scotian funeral director-turned-songwriter Terra Spencer charms audiences with her deft guitar, gospel piano, butterscotch voice, crackling wit, and wood-paneled warmth. Her startlingly intimate songs have caught the eye of collaborators including David Francey, Stephen Fearing, and Matt Andersen. Every show is a knee-to-knee conversation with a natural storyteller. “Friggin' wicked. ” - Matt Andersen

The Wardens stories and mountain music rise from the very land they’ve protected as Canadian national park wardens collectively for over 50 years.

The band have performed widely across western Canada and in the US from Alaska to California. They've shared the stage with Blue Rodeo, Pharis & Jason Romero and Ian Tyson and performed at Folk Alliance International, Canmore Folk Festival's main stage and for a royal audience in Edmonton, Alberta.
